October is filled with magic and celestial influences—from Mercury Retrograde to a Blue Moon on Halloween!
Just when you think 2020 is done throwing curveballs, another comes along. Although we’ve had many seismic shifts and portals, October is one of the most powerful gateways to open yet. If you embrace the healing energy it is offering, then it will set you in a positive trajectory for the last quarter of 2020. To help everyone out, I pulled a card apiece for Retrograde, the Blue Moon and Halloween.
Retrograde: The Eight of Pentacles
Practice makes perfect.
Retrograde often gets a bad reputation. It’s true that things can be more challenging during a Retrograde cycle, but they can be amazingly productive and healing as well.
The Eight of Pentacles reminds us that progress is possible this month, even if the path is a winding road (or river). Energy is moving through our minds, bodies and spirits, so it’s vital to keep true to that flow. If you feel blocked, redirect and keep pushing. Any investment of energy is returned when we see Eight of Pentacles, so don’t give up.
The healing aspect of this card is that once a lesson is learned, you can “graduate” and end a cycle. It’s auspicious that this card symbolizes Retrograde in October. Learn, release and move on to the next fork in your soul’s path!
The Blue Moon: The Fool
Change is possible. Play is necessary.
Things are not always what they seem.
For the second full moon in October, known as a Blue Moon, I pulled The Fool. This card reminds us of what’s possible. It’s a card of liberation, playfulness and calculated risk.
It’s also a warning: things are not always what they seem. As such, examine all contracts and decisions before taking that leap of faith. The fact that the Blue Moon is on Halloween means that we should expect the unexpected.
The St. Croix deck accurately portrays the bigger-than-life shadow that can sometimes be cast with fear or even unrealistic expectations, so don’t forget to plan and check assumptions. It also shows the playful side of the fool which reminds us not to take ourselves too seriously.
On October 31, give yourself a chance to have fun, and see what energies the thin veil wants to reveal. This particular card shows the moon in the background, too. As such, many of you are being guided to make a change in your life. Follow your instinct. The Blue Moon is coming to help you see hidden truths and possibilities.
Halloween: Strength (Reversed)
You are more powerful than you may realize.
Strength is one of the best cards in the deck. It shows that you have the capacity to overcome any obstacle, and when it’s upright, it portends health and mental clarity. As such, don’t underestimate yourself.
When reversed, it’s a cautionary card to not get tripped up in others’ drama. If there is someone around you projecting fears or insecurities, gently move through that minefield as illustrated in the Eight of Pentacles earlier. Don’t let shadows hold you back from shining brightly. Likewise, take special care to focus on mental and physical strength this month. If you often play the role of mentor, therapist, or you feel like you’re the go-to for emotional support, make sure that you receive the help you deserve as well.
Halloween is a time when the veil is at its thinnest. Be strong so that you can perceive the signs, omens and whispers of intuition that are coming your way and use them to catapult you into a great end to this year.
Halloween also provides us a chance to try on new guises—to explore what’s possible. Embrace the elements of Strength and The Fool when you do this. Know you can do almost anything you set your mind to, provided you work hard enough and believe in yourself.
